The Mechanical Engineering Study Program of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) has held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to evaluate the ongoing curriculum on Friday (11/15/2019) at the Platinum Hotel and Convention Hall Balikpapan. The speakers in this FGD were Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Nasruddin, M.Eng (University of Indonesia) and Dr. Slamet Wahyudi, S.T., M.T (University of Brawijaya). The resource persons suggested to develop a curriculum that contains local wisdom/products. The ITK Mechanical Engineering Study Program is advised to cultivate a culture of evaluating the curriculum and learning process every year. Evaluation is needed to see existing deficiencies and provide direction for further development. ITK's Mechanical Engineering Study Program has teaching staff who are relatively young, so according to the speakers, this is a big advantage because at a young age, these teaching staff are still full of energy to work.
Several stakeholders also participated in this event, including the Department of Cooperatives, UMKM and Industry of Balikpapan City, PT. PJB UBJOM East Kalimantan, PT. Altrak 1978 Balikpapan and PT. Steel Facility Studio. Stakeholders provide input on competencies that must be possessed by graduates of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in accordance with their agencies to be included in the curriculum. Graduates are advised to have a certificate of competence upon graduation. Mechanical Engineering graduates are also expected to have a high willingness to learn and be tenacious in their work. Stakeholders open opportunities for collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, for example for practical work or field lectures.
Hopefully the ITK Mechanical Engineering Study Program can move forward with the outputs from this FGD activity.
