Community service activities are one of the activities carried out by almost all universities in Indonesia. This time the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) especially the Mechanical Engineering Study Program carried out community service activities, this activity was carried out on Tuesday 16 August 2022 at the Secretariat of the Indonesian Disabled Persons Association (PPDI) in the form of handing over Electric Wheelchairs to people with disabilities.
This Electric Wheelchair (E-Chairity) is the work of ITK Mechanical Engineering students who are guided by Mr. Ir. Alfian Djafar, S.T., M.T, Mr. Andre Amba Matarru, S.T., M.Han, and Mr. Ir. Gad Gunawan, S.T., M.T, with this Electric Wheelchair, it is hoped that people with disabilities can be more comfortable in their daily activities. This Electric Wheelchair uses two electric motors which are placed on the right and left sides of the wheel which function as the main mover. Lithium ion is a type of battery that is used to drive an electric motor. The operation uses a joystick that can move forward, forward right, right, backward right, backward, backward left, left and forward left, so that the wheelchair can move in the direction the user wants. Charging the battery for this electric wheelchair takes about 4-8 hours to use this electric wheelchair for approximately 4 hours. This electric wheelchair is also equipped with an LCD screen and also a safety belt as a safety for its users.
The handover of this tool was attended by Mr. Himawan Wicaksono, S.ST., M.T as Head of the Department of Industrial and Process Engineering, Institute of Technology Kalimantan (ITK), Mr. Andi Idhil Ismial, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D as Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program ITK was also attended by several related parties, such as Mr. Tukiyo from the representative of the Social Service of Balikpapan City, Mrs. Arini as Head of Village of Telaga Sari Village, Balikpapan City, and Mr. Jauhari as Representative of CSR Pertamina RU V from Balikpapan City, Mr. Lukito as CSR PLN UIW Kaltimra, Mr. Edo as CSR PLN UP2D Kaltimra. "Thank you to my fellow students for trying their best to make this electric wheelchair possible and I hope that this electric wheelchair can be produced sustainably and it doesn't stop here so that more friends with disabilities will be helped," said Mr. Sugianto as chairman. PPDI Balikpapan city in a speech at the delivery of the Electric Wheelchair. With this kind of activity, it is expected to be able to motivate students to be able to continue to innovate and create works that can be beneficial for the surrounding environment.
