Optimizing Organic Fertilizer Production by Implementing Organic Fertilizer Counter Mechanisms (APPO)

Pengmas - 14 Mei 2022 - 12:00 AM

The Community Service Program of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology titled "Optimizing Organic Fertilizer Production with the Application of the Organic Fertilizer Counter Mechanism (APPO)" was held on Thursday, November 26, 2020, located in Karang Joang Village Km 6, North Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The program is a manifestation of the realization of one of the pillars of the Tridharma in higher education. The program involves students at the design and manufacture stage of the APPO tool so that it becomes the application of the knowledge that has been obtained.

Mr. Faisal Manta, S.T., M.T. as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering ITK led the program. The Sumber Rejeki Farmers Group, chaired by Mr. Asmuji, was chosen as the target partner in this program. Sumber Rejeki Farmers Group focuses on organic farming by processing waste materials into various solid and liquid fertilizers. Waste materials obtained from traditional markets and slaughterhouses are processed in several stages, namely collection, refining, stirring and ripening. At the refining stage, it is done conventionally by using a knife/machete cutting tool, so that the fertilizer production capacity is limited. The organic fertilizer product of the Sumber Rejeki farmer group has passed the standard test of organic fertilizer content conducted by the Agriculture Service of the city of Balikpapan. The application of mechanization is expected to be able to increase the production of Sumber Rejeki organic fertilizer so that it meets all the needs of members.

The handover of the equipment was also attended by the Head of the North Balikpapan Agricultural Extension Agency, Mr. Dwi Ngadianto, S.PKP. He welcomed the ITK community service program which made the farming community partners with the hope that in the future it would continue with a broader theme not only to farming communities, but also to livestock, plantations and fisheries.
